DESIGN HISTORY

WR125-X

“The WR125X and WR125R are both serious and aggressive motorcycles, we developed them for young riders who are not prepared to compromise or settle for second best.” explains Hiroshi Komatsubara, President of Yamaha R&D development centre in Milan, Italy. “The WR125X has real supermotard capabilities; the riding sensation is at the edge of the 125cc Motard category. The WR125R is more than capable of exciting riding on the tarmac but excels on the soil and dirt in light off-road conditions.“

Yamaha Quality Standards

2006 DT125
After the final Yamaha DT125X and DT125R came off the production line in 2007, Yamaha’s engineers were given a clear mission to fill-in this void and create a model that not only supersedes the legendary DT125X and DT125R, but improves on it in every aspect possible. In addition to this demanding target they set another challenge, to make the new model more affordable to young riders and have the ultimately high quality levels used in Yamaha production – on another European developed and produced model.

WR125X - Urban flipside

Check out the new WR125X and you’re going to be amazed at just how much high-tech equipment Yamaha have managed to squeeze into this full-sized Supermoto! The first thing you’ll notice is its remarkable physical presence - in fact , when you first see this radically-styled new 125 it’s hard to believe that you’re not looking at a much larger capacity bike! Power is supplied by a punchy fuel-injected liquid-cooled 4-stroke 4-valve SOHC single cylinder engine which kicks out plenty of high rpm power for great performance on city streets and twisty back roads. Smooth-action 41mmm front forks and linkage-type Monocross suspension together with a massive 140-section sports rear tyre make for great roadholding. And for remarkable stopping power the 17-inch front and rear wheels run with a 298mm front disc and a 220mm rear disc.
